In 1996 I carried the torch through part of our little town in Georgia for $70. It was the real torch and I got pics. A buddy of mine did it too and he paid another 300$ for a copy of the torch. Pretty neat. Once in a life time event for me and Georgia.
Yo mean you had to pay to carry the torch?

?? I thought it was a promotional event at almost no cost because it relied on volunteers around the globe. But you had to pay?

? Then it is not a promotional event, it is a business!!!!
I remember an interview to Coca-Cola CEO asking whether they had lobbied the Olympic Comitee to held the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, where the Coca-Cola headquarters is. CEO replied something in the line of "Coca-Cola presence worldwide is so big, that regardless of where in the globe the Olympic Games take place, we would have been there".
Big money around the olympic games. Big interest in cities to develop some areas. Big money in tourism. Where did the Olympic Spirit get lost?
Sport is like restoring bikes: if you do it for money instead of for challenging yourself, you will never have the right attitude...... -sorry I was never good at creating quotes, but you get the point-
