Anyone have a Samsung Galaxy S II phone?
« on: May 23, 2012, 04:15:05 AM »
On Monday, I got my first smart phone. On Tuesday, I realized I'm too dumb to use it.

I'm trying to transfer music from my PC to the phone so I can use it as an iPod, MP3 player....whatever you wanna call it.
Some of this is purchased music in the form of complete albums, some of it are in "albums" I made with lots of various artists, some of it is stuff I ripped from my CD's.

I downloaded Kies from Samsung and was able to get my music in there, but the phone won't sync/connect. Found out I needed the newest Widows Media Player 11, so I downloaded that. Still no file transfer. Made some changes to the settings on my phone and, after 4 hours of mucking with it,  was finally able to get it to sync with the WMP, but it put all the music in the "Files" folder on my phone and not the "Music" folder.
Plus, it's all random. None of the albums show up as albums, Music by the same artist is all over the place, some seems missing and, worst of all, it will only play one song at a time and only when I click each individual file.

I am an idiot. I am a luddite. Can I not get the music/files/albums straight from my computer to the phone in the same format? And by format, I mean if it's an album on the PC, why can't I get it on the phone as an album and not a random collection of songs/artists?
I want to get an adaptet for my car and be able to plug in the device, select my music folder and either play a whole album or shuffle between the whole collection. This isn't possible the way it's uploaded now.

Should I just go out and buy an MP3 player, or will I encounter the same thing?

I also have a new ATT Samsung Galaxy S II skyrocket and have since discovered that those Samsung smart phones are tailor made for the various carriers. I know of at least three different Galaxy S II versions: Sprint, T-Mobile and ATT. The software and other phone features are different between the carriers. I can’t answer your question, but have you tried Samsung tech support? They were able to help me out on two separate occasions: 888-987-4357. You might not be so dumb after all. ;)

Scott - I don't have the Galaxy but have had numerous smart phones. I have always just googled the question and found the answer online.
Yes, you can call customer support but that normally takes longer.
I bet you'll really like it once you learn how to use all the features it has.

Google took me to Kies and showed me how to turn off something in settings that allowed the phone to sync with WMP 11.

Samsung tech sent me to three different people who then transferred me to my local carrier who then transferred me to the wireless division who I hung up on after 15 mins. on hold.

My local carrier uses AT&T. I found some updates, downloads, etc. for this sepcific phone yesterday. None helped.
I see people all the time with headphones on their phone. Why can't I figure out how to get my music on there, hit "play" or "shuffle" and do the same thing?
