1973 CB500 - Need help wiring the horn
« on: May 23, 2012, 10:38:49 am »
Let me start by saying that I appreciate any help I can get here. I'm very new to motorcycle maintenance, though I've been riding for over 20 years. This is my first older bike, and the PO has left quite a few things undone, or poorly done. I won't get into a bunch of those details, but my primary task right now is to get a working horn on this bike so it will pass inspection and I can get it licensed.

As I purchased the bike there was no horn. The PO handed me an old horn but has no wires and I'm unclear where to tie it in. He pointed to this hookup I'm showing in the picture as to where the horn would tie in, but I don't believe that's correct based on wiring diagrams I've seen.

You're right: those 2 wires are the stoplight switch. In the same "drop" from the main harness, there should be a Black and a Light Green wire, which go to the horn. Black is Ignition Power, Light Green gets grounded by the horn button to beep.
See SOHC4shop@gmail.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

That was the ticket. Got the horn mounted and wired and all is working. Unfortunately, I've got bigger issues now. When I arrived to have the vehicle inspected it seems the VIN on the frame doesn't match whats on the title. Ugh.
So now I start down the path of getting the bike correctly titled.

Thanks for your help HondaMan
