D@mn PO!
« on: May 25, 2012, 07:23:29 PM »
So, I'm cleaning the carbs on my '78 750K.

Things are going fairly well, no real  problems with number 1 carb.

Then I open number 2 and look what I find!

Anybody have a clue what this stuff is?

My only guess is that there was a leak the PO could not fix and he decided to use something like JB Weld!

Now the question is...do I remove it? or leave ir?

I'm guessing that I'll be looking for a new float bowl at least.

Thoughts?

Yes, looks like some kind of epoxy. I would find a new bowl. Digger may have one? Or eBay.

Stev-O,

I've already gotten together with Digger.

He has offered to sell me one.

Lucky,

I'll send you the bowl as soon as I get a replacement from Digger.

Thanks both!

The PO may have been trying to close off the accelerator pump.

Stev-O,

I'll try to make that Rally!

My CB750 may not be show ready by then, but I sure hope it's road ready long before then!

Lucky,

If the goal was to close off the Accelerator Pump, it didn't seem to work.

Gas did come out when I operated the pump by hand.

Do you think that stuff will come out without hurting the bowl?

Is removing it something that needs special solvent or tools?

Now that I know this stuff is in there, I don't want to put it back into operation until it's gone.  I have sent Digger a payment for a replacment bowl, so I can take a crack at cleaning this stiff out.

You may be able to get it out, depends how good the adhesion is. Why bother?
