Oil Pump Relief Spring

Is it still standard high performance practice to shim up the oil pump relief spring with a washer, or replace it with a stronger spring? In a stone-age article on CB750's I recall that there's actually another spring somewhere in the powerplant that was the same diameter but a bit stronger. What's the contemporary word on this?

Yes - the uprated spring was part of the CR750 kit set. I think Kevin sorted a replacement spring that had the right characteristics (TTR400) but my memory may fail me there. I shimmed mine but  then I'm using it to pressurise the DOHC tensioner so it needed some tweaks...

its a good idea to mount an oil pressure gauge first to see what pressure you are running.
its contradictionary for a high performance engine to run more pressure than necessary :)

LOL - you're right Mike, a whole lot fewer tweaks and I'd have saved years and $$$$ to get a foul running evil pig of a bike  ;D

Thats why I just keep it shut and pay Mike R a lot of money not to say anything either

Well I've given up the sweet talk now - as soon as my Dyna is back from being fixed, the gloves are off and I'm gonna start the dirty talk!  :-*
I need to have her run in fully for beginning of August or I'll have to ditch the TT parade lap idea dn get another classic quick and I soooo want a shot of her airbourne over Ballaugh Bridge !
