front end bounce
« on: May 25, 2012, 08:29:59 AM »
any tips on how to diagnose front end bounce?

last fall disassembled the front end including the shocks, repacked the head bearings and cleand refilled the shocks with 15wt BelRay oil.

I am experiencing front end bounce at most any speed, not very noticable with both hands, but remove one hand and the front end bounces up and down, quick and short strokes...

assuming this is not normal?

any ideas?

Unbalanced or bent wheel? Maybe loose spokes?

Maybe too much air in the tire?

In my experience to heavy a fluid can cause a little bounce. Might want to try 10W.

Search doesn't work on this forum, at least for me.

Sounds like your forks might not have any 'compression' left to them. Or bent wheel.

Because it is easier for him to type keywords into a search box than to write full sentences.  It is a waste of time to post the same solutions to the same problems over and over.

The search function has been out of order for weeks.....  Your answer was also a waste of time..

Since nothing was left untouched means you're going to have to check everything on or in the front end. Process of elimination by finding out what it's NOT.

dudes! quit bickering back and forth...lol  ben, in my experience with my 550 the bounce I felt was solved by 2 things (this assumes you have spoke wheels):

1. having the wheels "trued" to make sure they are not egg shaped even in the slightest bit, and to make sure that the wheel tracks perfectly straight instead of having 3/4 of the wheel straight and that last 1/4 be off center (side to side)... now if you take it to someone and they are honest when they do this then they will take care of...

2. balance the wheels.

this fixed my brain mixing shaking wheels.  a quick way to test this is take a ratchet driver or extension  and lightly ping each spoke.  for the most part they should make the same "pitch"  if they make all different sounds then either do these things, or take the wheel off and use it as a xylophone.  :)
