New 341 pipes Anyone buy a set latley?
« on: May 18, 2012, 10:02:36 AM »
Im on the fence. The cheapest way out is the sets on e-bay but I dont like not being able to inspect them. Anyone bought those from Everett power sports? They dont have them on e-bay right now. Just the 300s. is the quality of the new ones that poor?

Ask  and you shall receive http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=106701.0.  I will take all the pictures you want.  There one guy ahead of you so I would add your name to the list if you are in the market for used HM341s.

Talk to Johnie and he'll tell you all about the issues he's had in getting a good set of 341's together. He had to wait till they got a new shipment of pipes into the states to get a certain one in good shape. He talked about it in his thread for his K3

OK, so I want a new set of HM300's, but after reading what Johnie went through with his K3, I'm really concerned.
Hondaman has my 836 about done and I should get it back in a week or two.  Id like to order a set of pipes, but it looks
like I better use a Honda dealer rather than Ebay.  Problem is I live in northern Minnesota by the Canadian border so the closest
Honda dealer is 130 miles away.  Looks like getting new pipes will not only be expensive, but also has the possibility of turning
into a real nightmare.

I've ordered quite a few parts from Sevicehonda for both KO & my K6. Never had problem with them, gave me good service. Don't know if the HM341's from them would have the same quality problem that johnie had with his or not. Might want to check them out if looking for new pipes and can afford it.

I ordered a set of HM300's today from the Honda dealer closest to me.  Cost me more than what I would have paid
on Ebay, but at least I can return them if they are not perfect.  I explained the situation to the dealer and he agreed
that I could return them if they have any flaws.  I'll let you know how it turns out when I get them.

Thanks! I also think the 300s should go on my bike. I do like stock original and I do have those but they have a pinhole or 5..I dont plan on parting with the bike and only some of the members here would notice it at re sale if I was called out. The add would read new Honda exhaust! If asked 341? I would of course admit it. Everbody always gets better gas mileage and prices than me. KC_Northstar would you please send me a PM of what your prices are? Ill keep it private!!! Thanks
 Ben
PS. do the heat shields come with the pipes? Is that why they vary in price? Bafffles are in the pipes right?
 Thanks.

No need to keep it secret,  I get ripped off all the time, so why try to hide it?  I paid 1290.  which is
several hundred more than I would have paid on Ebay.  But the dealer said he would back me on this
and make sure I got a good set.  My Bike is a totally stock K2, which of course has HM341's.  I like
the sound of the HM300's and the extra horse power is nice too. Hondaman is rebuilding my engine
as an 836, so the 300's should work out nice with that.  The 300's and 341's look identical so I don't
think it will hurt resale value at all.  Dealer says my pipes should be here by this Friday.  I'm keeping
my fingers crossed and hoping I get a good set right off the bat.

Ben,   If you do go to HM300's you should rejet the carbs.  Check out this post from Hondaman about the stock CB750 pipes:

Hey guys,

I took a chance at CMSNL.com and ordered a set of reproduction pipes for my 1974 CB750 K4. I ended up spending $1200 shipped and that included:

-pipes/baffles
-exhaust clamps
-exhaust gaskets
-new hardware for the clamps & flanges
-new hardware for the heatshields (I've refurbed my existing heatshields ... look nice!)
-new rubber pieces between baffles and rubber kickstand stopper

I also ordered new grips and rubbers for the foot pegs ... because I needed those too.

Anyway, I hope I don't get boned. They are supposed to ship today. I'll let you know how they are.

I bought a set from Everett Powersports around two years ago. They were HM300s but same thing really. I had a lot of trouble getting them on and they are now pitted and rusting after just two years down here in Calif where it doesn't rain ( at least I don't ride in it). I bought another set from David Silver about a year later. They went on really easily. Great fit and seem to be holding up much better. The funny thing is even though they are both "new" HM300s, they don't sound the same. Granted they are on different bikes but they still sound different. The  Everett Powersports version is clearly quieter. Anyway that's what your post asked so there you go.  Everett Powersports never returned my calls or emails either. Hope that helps.

Well that doesn't sound good!   I'll be really pissed if these things pit or rust that soon after
dumping more that a grand for them!  I have to admit after looking at them closely that these
are not as high of quality as the originals.

What do you mean about quality?  Finishing, construction, steel thickness, plating, welds etc..

Mostly plating.  It does not seem to be as high quality chrome job as the originals.
Also the welds are a little sloppy.
