SOHC archeology again, found a large cam.
« on: May 26, 2012, 09:43:25 AM »
I was digging through my brothers parts, checking cams to see how consistent the lobe sizes were, there was a very shiney one. I checked it, it's a welded stock core. The intake measures 1.460 just by putting a caliper over the high spot, compared to his RC315 cam which calipered 1.420 that's a major big lift, I'd say.
The only non stock  marks are K/H  F stamped on the end.

I'll need to set up a dial indicator in an old head to measure the auctual lift, I've got a degree wheel, maybe I can get the duration too. I've got some learning to do.

Shouldn't have told my brother what it is. Really I'm doubtful he will let it get away. thanks for the tip I'll check there. I want the RC315, so does he.

I don't see anything obvious in megacycle but did notice they measure duration starting at .040 lift. Good to know, is that standard for our cam manufacturers?

I suspect the KH F marking means it's a Kenny Harmon F grind:

Thank you. That makes sense. I put a dial indicator on the lobes and got .370" intake and 330" exhaust. Are our rocker arms 1:1 ratio?  The kenny harmon cam reads .385" and .330" that doesn't mean it isn't a KH. This was my first go round measuring a cam in one of these engines.

.385 @ 295 int and  .330 @ 290 exhaust? I know it's big.  My brother once bought a 1,000 kitted engine it may have come with that one. The Satanic Mechanic link above mentions road racing too.

I think a 315 has .375 on each valve.. and 310 degrees duration. but checking duration at .050 opening brings it in around 280 or 290 duration..

Thanks, 754 I didn't try to measure the 315 yet. I assumed it would be smaller.
