NH '77 CB750A Project
« on: May 27, 2012, 08:30:09 AM »
Howdy all
I am wrentchin on this '77 cb750a  for a friend.
She is in decent shape, tank is dented and choke cable broke...
Not sure if its a plus or not, but she only has 582 miles on her :)

She will start, but only running on 1&4, no spark on 2&3 :(
Wont stay running, without the choke, expect to do some work on the carbs...

I pulled the cover to the points/condensers and read with my meter that the set that feeds 1&4 coil pulsed on and off as I expected. The other point/condenser set that feeds the non running/sparking 2&3, read hot all the time, never pulsing off as the other set. The points look new/fresh, both do open and close as expected.

I disconnected the yellow and blue from the points/condensers and read these wires going to the coils and read a constant power on both yellow and blue.

Trying to spend as little $ as possible, dont want to feed parts at her...
Looking for suggestions as to where to look next...
Thanks!
Dave

put some emery on the 2&3 point that was always hot and now it pulsates on and off now, just like the other :)
Will soon check to see if there is spark thru the coil and to the plugs,
Will post pics soon...

Got her runnin on all 4 today!
Her smoke was awfully rusty looking, hasnt run in prolly 10 or more years, again only 580 miles.

The tank interior had been coated in some read sealant stuff.. Been running her off a funnel, she sure does suck it out the funnel fast.
I got a kreem kit, will start that today :)

Have an Awesome Memorial day everyone!

I was in NH this weekend, but not enough time to stop by (if I knew where you were).  I was near Plymouth, then MT Washington.

The red sealer stuff I have seen is great, don't know if I would put anything over it though....
