just got a 77k.... advice
« on: May 27, 2012, 07:57:25 PM »
So I picked up a K with F bodywork... It had been cracked up on the left side, but that was easily remedied (special thanks to Blitzburgh207).
Anyhow, Someone lavished some love on this bike, and it looks like they made a few smart upgrades..
A comstar dual-disc setup from a later F.. and a mismatched comstar on the back... tubeless bridgestone radials... a 4-1 that I can't identify, but the welds look expensive, and sounds nice without being obnoxious.
The paint job is actually nicer than the photos can show.. the pearl just washes out with my crap camera.

There were also a few sorta lame additions.. the fake clip on bars which limited the travel so much that it was dangerous, if not useless, anywhere but a moto GP track.
A little bit of home wiring.. and #$%*ty lights(also already remedied).
Another bad thing is the tab for the side stand is snapped. Anyone got a frame they're cutting up?  ;)
The most interesting bit was that it came with a spare cam, stamped "F2". I assume this is from the '77 F bike.
Hoping someone can confirm. If it's true, would there be an advantage over the 77K cam, even though the '77 F heads had larger valves?  On a similar note, I realized today that I've only ever taken a SOHC 750 apart when it was out of the bike. Will the valve cover come off in-frame?
Thanks in advance for any help and/or advice. Happy Memorial Day!

I do not believe you can get the valve cover off.

You can't get the valve cover off in the bike. I just changed the valve cover gasket and had to work the gasket around the valve cover and under it while it was in the bike.
