Keeping Cool
« on: May 28, 2012, 10:13:56 PM »
I'm a pretty sweaty dude.  Not a fatty, just a generally sweaty dude.  Like, it was 60 degrees last week and I mowed my lawn and had to wring out the sweatband a few times.

I need to get riding gear, and I'd obviously not like to get something that turns me into a pressure cooker.  Specifically a jacket, and helmet.

Anybody have any input on what kind of stuff I should be looking at?  Are there any good ventilated jackets?  Helmets?  I really know nothing about this stuff.

my Cortech GX Air Intake jacket is great for hot weather, but has removable layers for when you need them.

I have been happy with my First Gear mesh jacket.  There are some closeouts of many different brands of mesh jackets at the link below.  A great company to deal with.  This will instantly switch out a jacket if you misjudge the size of the ole ladies boobs too.

Hah, yea I knew it was coming.  As you may have figured, the jacket was too small up top.  I went by the chart they provided.  Now if they added another column for boobage, then I mighta got it right the first time.  :P

I've got a nice heavy leather I always wear when I ride... and boots, pants, gloves,...
As long as I keep moving, the zipper half way down, the jacket fills up with cool air. It's better then my cars AC ...
Heavy hot traffic sucks double though...
... keep moving ...

I have the FirstGear mesh jacket as well. Mine has a zip in liner which makes it much warmer for the cool of evening. I also remove the spine pad on the hottest days. This allows more of the mesh to breath.

Most modern helmets have vents now, but they can only do so much. On rides of length, I stop every 100 miles or so and soak a helmet liner/doo rag type thing in water. By the next stop its just getting dried out.
