I had a new 750 K2 when I was 19. With the factory 4 into 4, I took the baffles out and it sounded awesome. But we always want more - so I wanted a 4 into 1 so bad back then - just couldn't afford it at the time. Now at age 58 I'm restoring another K2. It came with a 4 into 1 on it - and guess what? All I want is a 4 into 4. The originals were too expensive so I bought a custom 4 into 4 system with a great sound and good looks too in matt black with the green on the bike. Slug

4 into 4's just make the bike IMO. I purchased KC's OEM pipes that were on his clean K2 off of eBay and got half of them on my K3 today. The other 2 are going on tomorrow AM. Here is a shot of how much "cooler" the left pipes look than the Jardines on the right. And, by the way guys, if anybodys interested in the 4 into 2 pipes, they are for sale, and I will deal them to anyone on this site at a great SOHC forum price!

G'day Steve O! Been fitting up pipes, oil lines and throttle cables today. Just tried attaching some shots without success. I think I might be trying to upload too big a file but not an IT type. Will check with guys at work tomorrow and see how I go then. She's looking the goods! Slug

the mufflers are too short and narrow on most of the 4-1s,most were made for easy mounting and looks, unlike this one,,which actually works, but looks #$%*,but sounds great.

or this one that works and sounds great and looks like it belongs.

not loud at all

  • Bike almost back to the 70's 2015
I remember the 4-4, the sound during slow speed and deceleration was a nice bubbling sound from all 4 pipes.
BUT, at them time here, end of 70's and beginning of 80's it was 4-1 that ruled, OEM in general was something for strange boring nerds. The wonderful roar during heavy acceleration was wonderful for us bikers but not for common people as well as the police that became really crazy! ???
Here an old photo how my bike looked like 1980 with a new RC 4-1 (for K7 therefore the nice upwards angle of the pipe), 6" longer forklegs, banana seat ...

Another option today would be to order a special made 4-4 in stainless steel, shorter and hotter looking. There are some guys in USA that can make systems like that. I think that MotoGPWerks.com can.

One of the good things with CB750 was all options with aftermarket parts, possible to build different versions of café, chopper and what you want with all wonderful parts. OEM paintjob was boring too.....

A nice 4-1 today is one of the Yoshimura replicas, plain steel or stainless. $300-500US

Back in the day 35 to 40 years ago many owners were doing anything and everything to there sohc4 bikes to get away from the original stock setup. Throwing away new 4 to 4 exhaust, seats, painting over tanks, and sidecovers. Nobody wanted them, just thought these parts were not good for anything. If they could get maybe a little more HP and sound with a different exhaust setup why not trash the originals they thought,

Oh my my how times have changed ;D

Any 4-1 exhaust recommendations?

Also, on some of the 4-1 exhausts, there is no rear mounting bracket. How do these exhaust not affect the crush washers in the head and cause problems. I just dont' see how these exhausts dont get knocked around and loosened up.

MotoGP makes great one. Carpys is good too, and a fair price of $260.
A classic Kerker would e excellent, if you are lucky enough to find one

I want to get the original 4-4 pipes back on my 750K6 that I bought in 2009. But right now it still has the Mac 4-1 that the PO put on. I can't complain the bike runs and sounds good, but just don't like the left side being naked without a pipe. Here's a rear view pic of the Mac.

I'm curious.  I see so many "original" bikes that have been outfitted with a 4 -1 exhaust, or even a 4-2 exhaust.  Was this a fad in the day, or does this continue?  I'm kind of a stock guy myself, and I LOVE the look of the 4-4 exhaust, so I don't really get it.  What do you think?
Even if you ran your stock exhaust they rusted out soon. In the midwest they might only last a couple years. Then a 4 into 1 was a no brainer. Our Honda shop took truck loads of stock exhaust to the scrapyard.

Bingo!

Plus, 4 into 1 were much cheaper, and available. Most of us here on this board know that Yamia sells the stock replacement 4 into 4's, but they run in the $1000+ range. Not many people (and certainly not many shops) even know about this.

Or you can be a glutton for punishment, like me, and order a custom 4 into 4 for your bike:

KB, I love that exhaust.

Im not even sure what Im running with right now. Its a Kerker megaphone with what I think is an F header. Not even sure if the Megaphone is "for" a 750. Its not terrible, but has a few rough spots. I love the sound though. The PO drilled a new hole in the Kerker mounting tab to attach it to the rear foot peg mount.

I just know that once I get a lot more done with the bike, Im gonna want a better looking exhaust.

I think this got overlooked. Anyone???

Even worse, crack the exhaust bolt holes on the head?
Or do they just bolt up and not have a single problem?

i know this post is a few months old, but when did Honda put out a new run of 4-4's??? i'd love to be able to get a new set for my 750! anybody else know about this?

oh yea, i see now. i've been looking for '78 parts and yes the mufflers are still discontinued. bummer!

i never looked closely at the fiches before. i just see so much 'discontinued', i tend to overlook the obvious. well, a great resource for those restoring pre '77 CB's.
