CB550 - Spring under oil filter cover
« on: May 09, 2005, 11:28:52 PM »
I was changing the oil and replacing my filter for the first time tonight. I noticed that the spring that goes between the filter and the cover is missing. I plan on going to the Honda dealer tomorrow to replace it, but I know there's a chance that it won't be available. Since all I have is a picture to go from, can anyone tell me how much resistance this spring has? I may be able to find one at a hardware store that will do until I can replace it with a real one.

Thanks,
Brian

Don't do that. Someone around here will have a spring to send ya. Hell, if its the same as a 750 (and the 350f is) I'll send you one.

You need a washer too. Or do you still have yours?

Thanks kghost. Really, it's no problemo, the Honda dealer is 2 blocks away ... I have to walk past it to get to my car to drive to where I'm working on my bike. And there's a hardware store next to the garage where the bike is. Convenient eh? I really appreciate the offer though!

Also, everything is laying on the garage floor waiting for me to return. I'm doing the carb adjustment dance and figured that I may as well change the oil since the engine was warm. I don't know the last time it was changed. I have to put it all back together before continuing on the carbs tomorrow.

The more I dig into this bike the more upset I get about the previous owners maintenance habits.

filters and rubber o-rings are available, so I don't think you will have problem with the spring.

One word of advice: when I tuned up my bike, I bought the filter and o-rings beforehand. The o-rings were 2$, the filter 3$, to discover that the filter comes with the o-rings.
