Buffer Stand Ideas?
« on: May 31, 2012, 02:56:28 PM »
Hey guys,

Garage space gets more and more limited as time goes on. I have a buffer and that I was going to mount to an old work bench, but I'd also like to be able to do other projects on that bench. Any ideas for mounting it so it can be raised above the table top, and easily released and moved? Maybe mount to a board then mount a 6-10 inch pipe with large wing nuts? I like the looks of this: http://www.caswellplating.com/buffing-polishing/buffing-machines/buffing-machine-stand.html but would add a single task area to another part of the garage. I have no access to welding equipment so a strictly hand-tools and hardware based idea is what I'm looking for.

I saw one folded on the wall like an ironing board.  Dropped out and secured to floor as needed.
For my buffer i added some plastic gutter pieces to catch the part when it goes airborn.

I have one like that from HF.  I switch between my grinder and buffer on it.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

I knew a guy that did commercial acrylic stuff.   His buffer motor rolled around like a cannister vaccum , the wheel was on the end of about 6'  rotating cable. I'm Pretty sure it was something he made.

There is a grinder at the shop that works the same way, great for tight places,  porting and things like that.

Ah...the Harbor Freight one actually looks decent. I'll have to check it out.

I got this one from there.  Only a dollar difference anyway.

A black and Decker workmate bench works great. Just drop a couple of 2" bolts down through the holes on the base of the grinder and clamp them in. I have one side of the grinder with grinding wheel and the other a buffing wheel. I use it not only for my grinder/buffer but I also can hold my 7" DA buffer in it as well for buffing side covers, acrylic light lenses, smaller stuff, etc. It takes seconds to pull the grinder off and use the bench for other things.

I was thinking about fashioning a drop cloth curtain on shower curtain hooks that could wrap around three sides while buffing to catch and keep the buffer remnants and compound slag off everything.
