550 SS carbs a total loss UPGRADE?
« on: June 11, 2012, 02:45:08 PM »
I am finishing a 550 ss project that someone else started and the carbs that came with are no good. They appear to have been rained in for decades. I bought a set of 550 nighthawk carbs but they dump gas unless they are angled up on the bike, so I am considering 26mm round slide Mikuni's..... Any thoughts?

Original or headaches, the choice is always yours. ;D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Agreed but in this case the stockers would be a headache. They are missing a bowl, a jet boss is broken, and are completely seized.

You could buy a good used set.  You'd have spare parts, and few headaches getting them to fit and operate.

Bigger carbs won't make the engine operate better unless you also do extensive engine mechanical mods.

One of the first things I bought was a spare set of carbs.

Agreed with everything said.  Get a good used set for your bike model.
