Has anyone here tried Andrew Digital tach?  The claims are highest accuracy and a .5 second refresh rate with recal for higest RPM.  He has positive feedback on Ebay.

I think this would be a good tool to have for tuning purposes.

For some applications I don't like digital. RPM reading is one of them. Analogue reads easy, is intuitive... you also see/feel the speed RPM rises and decreases. For digital you have to use your brain more, you need to interpret. The same for CO-testers. I prefer needles over flickering digitals anytime.

Agreed. I don't see a need for exact accurate RPM data for anything and the way they work is to present snapshots of RPM - at idle the engine will not be exactly stable (the reading will change a bit every refresh) and when cruising the information is pretty useless anyway. A digital tach doesn't show the rate of RPM change in any meaningful way so it's useless for timing your shifts when riding. Modern bikes may have a digital tach but also have a sweep display to show this rate of change to you.
Unless you don't have a tach on your bike, I don't see a use for this as the standard one is good enough for tuning. You only want a rough RPM reading to check the advancer (it doesn't matter within a hundred or two RPM when it advances) or to see the change when adjusting the carb idle mixture screws.
The hour meter would be good on a generator or lawn tractor - something without an odometer to schedule maintenance, but we can schedule by distance pretty accurately: our air cooled engines are not going to be run for hours without the bike moving.
The price is good but I don't think I need one.

I agree with Delta and Bodi Call me old school but analog is better in some cases. I still like and use my Simpson 260 going on 30+ years now.

For the same reason I still prefer my old Seafarer Depth sounder on my yacht. That little echolight tells me how steep the sandbank is I'm approaching and I can anticipate when it's wise to tack. Changing digits on modern digital depth sounders tell me the depth allright but not that trend. (Is pace the word?)

Yeah, I get what you guys are saying here.  Just want something accurate for tuning air screws and this is sopposed refresh every 1/2 second.  I have read that digital is more accurate than the stock tach, and that stock tacs can be way off.

itll be way better for fiddling around compared to the stock tacho,,they were wrong from new more or less anyway,i dont like digital though.

Only $900 sounds like a bargain to me.  Don't you guys use craigslist down under?  does not look any bikes are listed?

Mind Changed!  I would not even pay $300 for that ruster!  I think I need to give myself a tetanus shot just from looking it!  We call that yard art here.

ive been following a lot of 500/550 sales bacca and this type of junk is getting no bids,we have a decent monthly magazine australia wide here "just bikes"in which the prices are more realistic,it has a classifieds for parts etc.
