There has to be a way.....??
« on: June 16, 2006, 09:00:02 AM »
There has to be a way to remove the shaft that holds the two carb lifter fingers
on the K! and later carb racks.  This is the shaft that rotates with the throttle
cable.  It seems to be pinned in the backing plate.  Removing all bolts and
screws doesn't free it.  The fingers are indexed in the shaft by woodruff (sp?)
keys but how is the shaft held in the plate?  ???

There is probably rust holding the keys to the rod and leavers.  I broke one of the lifting arms on my 550K trying to spread the slit a little bit.  Get a good penetrating oil and lots of patience.

I have that very item apart for cleanup less than a month ago.

You've already removed the bolts. The only thing left is the two half moon key at each end of the shaft...

The shaft will move sideways in the backing plate about an
eight inch in either direction....and the finger jobbies are not
hitting anything when it freezes.....

More inspection later....thanks for the help.

Found it!  There was one bolt/screw broken off flush with the casting. After
drilling it out and some coaxing the shaft came out.

Thanks for the help.  On to the next problem.  ::)
