1973 CB350F Tires for the ol' gal.
« on: June 02, 2012, 08:44:05 AM »
I'm feeling my oats and probably getting ahead of my self a bit but enough progress has been made on the bike to consider replacing the 35 year old tires (still plenty of tread left.............).

So, I want to stick to stock size and street tires. What have you folks been happy with and why?

I'm tempted to go with a very modern tread design but perhaps a classic looking tire will be better looking on the bike and work almost as well. Good enough in fact. This is Phoenix so rain performance is not critical. Price may be a consideration as I have two other bikes and there is a good chance sun will rot them before I wear them out.

I too have a 74 CB350F and am in the market for tires and am curiously watching to get some ideals also.

As with yours tires, mine are the factory tires, doctor had bike in his garage, only 2800 miles on it.

They still hold air, great tread, but has signs of cracking.

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they still have the factory air in them, as they haven't leaked a bit.

Be careful on those old tires.  Shouldn't be riding on them anyway.

I was thinking of going with a modern sleek design myself but I'd probably end up with whatever is cheap and safe to drive on.

Mine has Duro's on it.  Stock sizes.  They're cheap tires but my bike sees no rain and usually about 65MPH tops.

I've been looking at the Avons.

Right now the bike is not running, not plated, not insured, and the tires are good enough to roll it around the property as I work on it. I'm amazed that the tires have not needed extra air since I filled them a couple weeks ago when I got her home.  ;D

Ive also got Duros on my 400F.   They were cheap and  don't look too antiquated.      I got both tires for about 100 bucks  from Dennis Kirk

Avons are great tyres but kind of pricey.

Personally, I would not buy the cheapest tire.  Tires are a pretty important part on a bike!

I too have the IRC GS-11s on my '72 CB350F. They come in the correct size 3.00x21 and 350x18, and they have a vintage look to the tread as well. (As a side note on that, just found an old Cycle World from 1978 that had a tire test article in it and lo and behold what was one of the tires they tested? IRC GS-11, and they looked identical to the ones you can buy today! So, if you're interested in a good tire that's also vintage-correct, the IRC GS-11s are a good choice. Decent price too).
