Art Collecting
« on: June 05, 2012, 08:45:19 AM »
Anyone collect art,or even have just one piece. What do you have?I am currently getting a rare print authenticated,we will see.If its real I will probably sell it to invest in the Art of the motorcycle ;D.Its a salvador dali I have had for 25 yrs.signed numbered, its a long shot because there were a ton of fakes in the market, still, even if its fake, its a pretty cool piece.

Not to sound rude but...they give those "original Dali" prints away on cruise ships. Pretty sure they will do a short run on them so the production number seems low and rare. They will call it a "Limited Edition". Make an "Edition" this week of 200...and maybe another "Limited Edition" of 300 next week.

I worked at as a picture framer for 7 years and cant tell you how many people came in to get a "Limited Edition" print from either Dali or Picasso.

I collect antique letter/ printing press blocks and intaglio printing plates though.
I have one "COOP" signed silkscreen and want....more.

I worked in galleries since 85,I was also a picture framer for 20 yrs,I went to Art school for fine arts so,I know a thing or two about it.I also have a coop,as well as a ton of framed rock posters and a really cool piece of Tiki wall art by Mister G a famed japanese pinstriper.

I've just started collecting, but due to budget constraints, I collect the art created by hundreds of my friends, all local artists here in South Florida. I'm an amateur artist and attend many local art events. It's very fun, and affordable, collecting local artists work!
I only have my first 3 pieces so far, but I hope to get much more.

The original of this painting sold for $590,000 a few years ago.  Painted in 1903 by CM Coolidge as a series of nine paintings of dogs playing poker to advertise cigars.  Collect all nine but beware the many imitators. ;D

I have a pinstripe tiki painted on an antique galvanized oil can. But I did forget to sign it. Probably enhanced the value.

This is probably my most culturally significant piece, probably most valuable,  too,  though I have  no real estimate of it's value.  People who know enough about it to tell anything all want to buy it.

I was going to use it as a guitar strap decoration,  but my archaeologist friend who I have worked for said don't.  The native fellow who seemed to know about it said that would be a way to appreciate what it is.

Tee-pees and stars on a white background- one guy immediately said it was Cheyenne.  It is made on a loom so it is not over about 120 years old.  Probably it's at least 110 YO.  I was told I did well buying it, though at the time it seemed like most of my budget.
