81 750 front frork assembly: Backup plate??

Guys Im a lil stuck! Can someone please tell me where the backup ring goes upon re assembly?? does it go inside the lower leg or does it go on the top of the lower leg under the new seals ?? Please & Thanks a bunch !!!  :P

after taking a more thorough look Im guessing it goes just under the seal. duhh
