Not sure of which forks I have/how much fork oil to use
« on: June 08, 2012, 09:47:20 pm »
OK So I find out the P.O. installed an 81 air assisted front end on the 78 750K that I own. I am currently rebuilding the forks and just measured the upper tube. It measured 23 5/8. My question is I guess : Which front end do I have & how much oil goes in each tube? I put 6 oz. atf in each leg.I think they need some more fluid but I dont wanna make the new seals leak by over filling!! Also gonna hafta return the new springs I got because they are only around 19 inches long, wish I measured em before ordering. Dohhhh  >:(

Maybe a picture of the forks would help? There's many that will fit these bikes.
See SOHC4shop@gmail.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

I cant get any pics to post. it keeps reading " request entity too large"? Hondaman sir, Thank you for the reply. I was told that the bike had a frozen front caliper when it was nearly new & the PO threw the whole front end away(yes sir, I said threw away, as in tossed in dumpster someplace. What a maroon !) and swapped an air assisted front end from a 1981 CB750K. Gonna keep trying to post pics.

The 1981 CB650 has air assist forks. They are 35mm. I have a set in need of seals that I will be taking apart (probably tomorrow) that I can measure the tube length for you. If they are for the '81 650, here is the oil capacity chart from my clymer manual.

Lower the pixel setting on your camera to make a 'smaller' picture or use a free online photo service to reduce the size and then you can post up some pics  ;)

I missed this part and was going off the title on my previous post. The service manual for 79-83 CB750K says drain and refill capacity is 155cc (5.2oz) and rebuild capacity is 172.5-177.5cc (5.8 to 6.0oz)

Why don't you buy a workshop manual for your motorcycle?

I have 2 workshop manuals thank u sir. They are for a 1978 CB750K. The front end is an 81. Should I buy a manual to see how much oil they take or just ask u friendly helpful chaps on here? Thanks so much and have a great day.

Yes. Fork volume would likely be the same. Not sure if thats the same fork though.
