More Questions
« on: June 15, 2012, 06:53:45 PM »
Sorry about all the posting, Ill try to finish knocking out all the questions I have here.

1. Is there a way to remove the bell cap on the k model shocks to make them look like the F model?
(Whats the shock compatibility without mods through the years? Tricks and tips on getting shocks off?)

2. When I decellerate I get a shimmy feel, a wobble or jerk of sorts. The suspension/tires have been gone through, the only thing I can think of is the sprocket rubbers (Not sure on the official name) When I replaced my brake pads, I noticed I didnt have any. Would that cause the symptom described?

3. My bike pulls hard all the way up the RPM range, but when I hold it on a constant speed (60 lets say) I get a jerk, almost as if its starving for fuel, but I can crack it back and its fine. Whats this sound like? Slows are 35, needle is one from top notch, and jets are 140s (thats a whole nother thread...)

4. Is the brake light bulb a multifilament bulb. I just noticed today my driving light is out, but brake light works fine.  (I could probably answer this question myself if went out and looked. The air conditioner just feels so nice though...)

5. Will I have any problems fitting an F seat and accesories (fender, bar ect.) on a K frame? I have the F tank, with a K seat which I heard couldnt be done, but I had custom brackets welded to the seat and frame. Does someone have pics of a 75-76 F from straight behind and pictures of the mounting point?

I think that covers it, again sorry for so many posts, and thank you guys a ton. Your a very big help in me restoring my bike.

to #2. All 2 out of the 2 sohc4s I've had did that... :o. until I replaced the necks badly worn ball bearings with fresh tapered ones. And I think my bad swing arm bushings on the 750 may have contributed to it to.
Have you done that yet?

and to #4. Yes.

I'm sure someone will ring in on 1, 3, and 5.

Additionally... imho... I think it's better to make the topics of your posts a short version of your question... and, as some topics go long, one question per topic.
but whatever...

Welcome to the forum.

Tubeless tires on the tube type rims?

Seems like only the old time shops know how to do this properly as the don't automatically self seat upon installation.

The tire casting usually has a raised line near the rim.  Check that it is the same distance from the rim on both sides for the entire circumference.  If not, you can usually see the tread wander sideways when spun on the axle.

You changed the main, but not the slide needle position?
What do the spark plug deposits look like after doing a plug chop when it is exhibiting the annoying behavior?

Plug chops are clean and the needle was in the middle position when I got it. How do you know if you have the tube or tubeless rims?

I know by looking at mine.  And, of course they are stock.  All the SOHC4s came with Tube type tires and rims, AFAIK.

Wire spoke wheels are tube type.  The valve stem mounting is usually the give away.   Tube type rims have a close tolerance area for where the bead seats/seals.

Let me rephrase that - Its a 1975 CB750K frame, seat, suspension; But a 1976 CB750F motor, wing harness, carbs. I nick named it "Soup Sandwich" because when I got it it was, well, a soup sandwich. Theres still little oddball things that blow me away about it (the carbs mainly..)

Happy riding!

#2.. at what speed are the shakes? Are the steering head bearings tight? Front axle nut torqued to the proper specs? As a general rule, slowing down shakes are in the front end.

Take a small pixel picture with your camera, load it on your computer . Make a post or modify and go to attachments at the bottom of the page, click, find it in your file, attach. If I can do it anybody can,but I think you can also as you have an avatar pic.
