New member says Hi
« on: June 10, 2012, 04:52:23 AM »
Greetings to all from Wellingborough in the UK.
I've just bought a 500 Four, the object of my unfulfilled lust in the 70s  - well, one of them  ;)
It's a 1975 and I'm picking it up this coming Saturday. It's a runner but will need some work to get it up to standard so I'll be picking brains here and learning about my long-awaited new bike.
The new addition will share the garage with my Tiger 1050 and my wife's Hornet 600. She'll be riding the 500; it's a "Homer Simpson" birthday present for her (I enjoy adrenaline sports).

Looking forward to the ride,
Pete

Welcome from North Carolina ;D Lets see some pictures of your bike. Pete if it's a 1975 it would be a CB550 not a 500 I believe. I had a 1976 CB550  back in the mid 70's, liked it a lot. Very nice bike, wish I had held on to it :(

Thanks, DH. It's a 500,  registered in 75 but it could be an import or old stock registered late. It was a bit of an impulse buy and I haven't seen it yet (I did say I like adrenaline sports!) but the price seemed right . . . I'll post some pics when I get my hands on it.

Just got round to posting a pic. Bike's now in a state of partial undress in the garage. Puncture on the way home, overflowing carb and a broken clutch pushrod. I guess this is what classics are all about (in the early days, anyway). A wonderful opportunity to bond with the wee machine - scouring the manual and poring over the parts diagrams has become my evenings' work. I'd like to get it back on the road and spend some time geting to know it before the serious restoration starts but it's so tempting to start pulling just one more bit off . . . !
