i found oil leaking out the side of the head

ok so i took the bike for the first long ride today only to find that one hour later oil leaking out the side of the head and low oil pressure so im going to take a stab at it that i need to pull the head and put in a new head gasket and hope all is well any one else run in to this problem

HAHAHAHAHA, you're funny ;D .  I think damn near everyone has had this problem at one point or another, there is an o-ring on each side of the head there  that goes hard and leaks.   ;)

Ok now seriously, depending on how bad it is and how much it bothers you determines the next step, you can do what I do which is to simply ignore it, mine isn't that bad and I don't want to lift the top off my engine, if it is a little worse than mine you can roll up some paper towel and stuff it in between the fins at the head joint and replace it when it is full.  If it is worse than that or if it really bothers you then you can lift the head off and replace the head gasket and o-rings, there was a good thread a while back that covered how to fix this oil leak, I'll see if I can track it down.  Also the low oil pressure could be because of bad o-rings in your oil pump.

I have seen the paper towel in between the fins work, but a 1/4 inch nylon rope shoved in there works good too. Saw that tip on this board.
