I don't have a wheel or the skills to use one yet.  This is my first attempt using a gas tank as the donor metal.

Nice work on that gas tank tail, is that lid used for a compartment?

You should check out Do The Ton. Tons of this kind of stuff over there. Lots of good ideas for sure.

Yes, the lid is the original gas cap cover door.  I cut it off before cutting the tank apart and welded it back on farther back.  The shell is then welded to a thick seatpan from another donor bike.  There isn't much room inside because I left the seatpan intact.

The seat is great!
I have never liked the lid on the tank though.

Lucky...thank you for the compliment...but it's the lid on the tank that sets it apart from most of the others.  I realize the '77-'78's are less desireable than the earlier models, but that is what I started with.  The lid on the gas tank and the matching lid on the seat cowl make mine somewhat unique.  I need to get rid of the big knob handle.  I am working on a recessed latch that works with a rollerskate key!  The real purpose was to get rid of the bag I always had to hold my sunglasses, water bottle, and the other little crap that I don't want in my pockets.  On another note, I plan on stealing Frankenstuff's idea for a cafe bagger, but My Donor bike is a '77 with the full Vetter kit including side and top boxes.  More to come.

just for fun.

Thanks...
say, is that a lightening hole in the seat, or will that be the glovebox with a tuck and roll lid on it?

Will it be metal oe fiberglass for the hump?
I'm guessing the white part represents the existing frame of the bike.
I'll be watching for progress.

@kerryb that hole is simply because I didn't finish drawing it. It will be a similar style piece that can come off to expose a glove compartment (or ice chest). Made of 20ga steel.

I have the progress over on my build thread.
