1976 cb400F Kickstart lever ??
« on: June 11, 2012, 09:28:36 PM »
I'm building a bike for my wife. I'm using a 1976 400F as it's power plant. When I got the motor it was missing a few parts. Right now I'm trying to locate a kicker arm for it, my search thread is here,  http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=108269.0   . I guess my question would be are there any kicker arms that will also work on that motor? I've tried to look them up at parts sites (maybe not the right one) but none of them list that part. Help in this situation would be appreciated :)  !!   Thanks in advance,   ...cougar...

I'm not sure if it has the same part number, but the CB350F kicker fits well.  I have one on my 400f.  No clearance or spline issues.

Cheers,

Leigh.

The only one I know is the 350-4. The arm is somewhat different but the knuckle is identical, the assembly will fit and work on a 400 (I found some pics).
I have dug through several big bins of kickstarters at wreckers and looked at hundreds of them, and I have not found one that fits. Some look like they should work but will not fit on the shaft spline. Most have knuckles that will obviously not fit in the cramped space even if the spline matches.
My knuckle cracked open, I had it welded back together with a reinforcing washer welded on the open end (where the rubber plug goes). Works OK but looks a bit naff so I've been searching. The knuckle is a 350-F part number, only it and the 400F use it. Unobtanium.

Well guys it looks like I will need to modify my "Wanted" ad to include the 350F as well and see how it goes. I've seen a few sites online that lead you to believe they have them in stock but when I told the 'ol lady the price of the cheapest one, well lets just say she wasn't a happy camper,LOL. Oh well, the search continues.   ...cougar...
