I worked with a guy whose parents were notified he was killed in Vietnam. He called home a couple weeks later and his mom fainted.

Every year we give government officials more power over our lives.
In the future, they will be able to correct trivial death information mistakes, and make their information distribution true, after the fact.
That way, the government can never lie.  ;D

Does this have to do with memory holes and the ministry of information?

I got one.  A good friend was supposed to be on Pan Am 103(that went down in Lockerbie), but at the last minute didn't board it because of an intuition.  After it crashed, he thought it a good idea to call his wife and tell her he was okay.  His brother-in-law was already comforting the "widow", and it was he that answered the phone.  He got hung up on three times, until the brother-in-law realized it was really him.
