750k3 dust covers...
« on: June 14, 2006, 08:36:18 AM »
So, i'm fairly convinced i'd rather be running dust covers on my forks rather than the fork boots.  Mainly because the last pair of boots i paid US $50 for only lasted a year.  Seems like dust covers would be a better solution for not ruining fork seals as quickly.  Am i mistaken about thinking that the two serve somewhat of the same purpose?

I called up the dealer this morning to see what they had to say and they seemed sort of thick headed about the whole thing and told me that there's no way a dust cover can fit onto my bike.  However, i did notice this thread: http://www.sohc4.us/forums/index.php?topic=2571.0 where cb500 twin dust covers are referenced and after looking at the parts diagram from http://www.powersportspro.com/, it looks like those fork dust covers will in fact fit my bike.  Seems like they do fit over the end of the fork lowers as opposed to trying to fit inside the fork lowers; however, i have not compared the fork diameters.  Does this sound correct?

Has anyone tried the dust covers from a 500 twin or have part numbers or places i can get a dust cover for my '73 cb750k3?

cheers.

I can't really help you with your quest to fit dust seals, but I do know that David Silver Spares has the OEM boots for about $18 USD each, listed as Fork Gaitors.  I put a set on my K1 about two years ago and they're still in great condition.  No reason to think they won't last another ten years, at least.  Don't worry about the shipping from DSS, they usually charge about the same or even less than what most domestic suppliers tend to charge.

Yes 500 twin will fit and the gaiters go over the alloy sliders just like the dust covers part number 51425-375-003 (or 005)
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

I'm 100% sure that the 750F1 dust covers will fit.

I have a k3 and i recently put F1 forks on my bike, but I kept my old boots.  Once I get clip on headlight ears, I'll put the dust covers on.
