Deck screw in tire, replace tire, or plug and re-use?
« on: June 14, 2012, 05:19:41 PM »
I had a flat the other day, tube type tire... there is a deck screw in it, do I replace the tire and tube?  or use a plug/patch in the tire and just replace the tube...any thoughts?

Do not use a plug, have a hot patch put inside the tire and get a new tube.

You can get hot patches at some bicycle shops.
Good tire shops have them too.

Any way a patch inside the tire is what is needed.

The question is why patch it? It is a fairly small hole.  The tube holds the air anyway. When you patch tubed tire you create a high spot inside the tire that the new tube can rub on it.
