Fork/ Triple tree disassembly
« on: June 15, 2012, 03:08:39 PM »
I need to remove my forks to do some work (paint and replace dust seals.) Can someone please provide some insight on whats involved and steps to get them off.
Thanks!

Can speak for 750 K1/K6..others may vary.
Need to have a floor jack and/or blocks under front of motor to keep front up.
-off with handlebar clamp,
- drop off the front wheel and mudguard,
- suspend handlebars up in air with a rope or something -  if u have internal wiring,
- wrench off the top big nut on the top tree,
- loosen but leave nuts on - the  bolts on top clamp (don't lose the 2 1/2 washers in each clamp - they are critical),
- lift off top clamp,
- loosen 2 front bolts on bottom clamp,
- slip bottom of rubber gaitors off at bottom away from bottom fork,
- twist and pull each fork down and out, fork ears with gaitors attached can be lifted off sideways.
From memory - so hope that's accurate.
Regards
Mark
