Lee Roy Brown - The Junkyard Dog (CB550 Cafe)
« on: June 15, 2012, 09:21:36 PM »
This is my long-term project. I picked this thing up at a junkyard in West Virginia. A friend of mine found this place when they tried listing a CM400 on ebay without a title. Several of us went down & while searching the yard I found this jewel in the weeds. The current managers of the place were scrappers who bought the contract to the place & had no clue what anything in the yard was or worth. We bought a couple of engines & they sold it at the scrap rate of aluminum per pound. We ended up dragging a couple of bikes out that had been sitting in pig sh*t for several years during our expeditions there. They kept trying to lead us to a "harley", which was actually a sprint from the 70's. Apparently "Big Momma" was the purchaser of all of these bikes. She bought everything that came into the "holler"; I loved this as I had no idea what a "holler" was before this. I found this one because it was the only 550 in the place that had a title that I could link up to a frame as they had a stack of titles but weren't sure what they went with. In addition, it had to be the only 550 that was not locked up in the place. That's the good, everything else pretty much needs replaced. I'm slowly building up what I need, but have a lot of things I need before this thing is finsihed. Which is why it is a long-term project. So that's the inspiration for the project. Pics will definately be coming but detailed pics are hard to come up with right now as it's tucked into the corner of my garage currently.

Here she is in all her glory. No rear wheel & the front end is completely rusted up.

don't give up...I just sold a similar 550 basket case for $225.  It was more complete but further disassembled.
If it works good, it looks good...

Eh you are missing a lot but it sounds like you paid next to nothing.  It sounds like he had other 550s there that were not titled?  You might do well getting another one and just use it as a parts bike.  Probably get it for next to nothing.
