cb750 throttle cable adjustment
« on: June 16, 2012, 08:07:44 AM »
I just put a set of motion pro cables on my 74 cb750. They installed nicely but to get the slack out of the cables I had to run the adjuster near the throttle almost all the way out. It feels like the carbs are going to WOT but at max throttle the top of the throttle cable cam on the carb rack is hitting the end of the threaded part of the cable sheath where the steel cable comes out. Is that normal? On the carb end of the cables, the bottom cable just has a solid nut affixed to the cable sheath and one moveable nut while the top cable has one fixed nut and two adjustable nuts. The old cable on the bike had the two adjustable nuts on the top cable touching each other so thats how I put the new one on. Is that correct? I figured the second nut is like a jam nut. So do I have this all on there right? I can get some pictures tomorrow if you need a visual.

P.S. On the plastic portion of the throttle barrel where the ends of the cable slide into one of the sides is broken off and the cable slips out until you get it back into the housing. Where can I get a new one of those? Or is there an upgrade option that will replace the whole throttle assembly? The starter button is broken  and the wires are cut inside of the throttle housing by the previous owner. If there is a replacement unit that will get me a functional starter button that would be fine by me. Kickstart is cool and all but not every time ;)
