The Mysterious Master Cylinder
« on: June 19, 2012, 03:14:34 AM »
So after about 2 weeks of fighting with my master cylinder of my 500/F, waiting for several snap ring tools, 3 hours of boiling and a half a can of carb cleaner, I've finally managed to dismantle   ???my master cylinder in order to start a rebuild.

What's interesting was that when I pulled it apart, the master cylinder was severely corroded, however I noticed that there was no spring behind the cylinder?!?

Am I losing my mind? It could be possible that the person before me tried to pull it apart, and failed to replace the spring, however it seems somewhat unlikely as it would be sill to go through all the trouble of putting the snap ring back into place with an actual spring.

Im perplexed as to how this happened. Has anyone seen this before?

So weird. ???

Thats what I'm saying. Granted, this is my first master cylinder rebuild, and yes, I'm a newbie CB restorer, but I've done the research and I know there IS supposed to be a spring in there.

It does however make sense seeing as how the cylinder was so difficult to disassemble.

I guess it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things. I'm just saying WTF.  ;D
