CR750 Breather/Collector
« on: June 16, 2012, 12:36:35 pm »
Using the Bartels oil tank on a CR configured CB, what are the accepted and correct breather/collector setups? I have seen the small round collector used and a few other configurations. Are there ready-made collector/breather kits available? And I am assuming that at the end, we are using a K&N breather filter, yes?

Anyone? I presume all users of Bartels/Mead Speed oil tanks have solved this - ?

Hey Spirit...

I vent the valve cover to the front facing oil tank spigot, and the crank case and the two rear facing tank spigots straight out the back along the frame rails under the seat, no filters.
I have raced the bike this way for several seasons with no issues.  But as tech/rules are tightening here, I will be adopting a similar setup to that in the picture below.  The little K&N hose filter would be a good option for the crank case though.

At one point a while back I recall Mark McGrew/M3 Racing (KOS on the forum) talking about offering a factory type catch can setup....

Just get a used one from a RC51. Very nice and compact.
There are many others you can use.

never cared to fit one... or are you counting on having plenty off-track excursions into the gravel traps? :)  and even then, the chance of the engine creating negative pressure and sucking grit are close to nill IMHO.

Lucky, thanks for suggesting the RC51/RVT1000R unit, used. I think that'll do the trick, much better than a custom one or a $300 "CR" unit! I probably will still fit a small K&N, just as a "demon tweak".
