Did you see the price tag?????? RC-2240 K&N's look to be the
way to go. I just need to know if the offset of the flange's is
correct. These are a dual flange air filter that work's. Not fussy
in the mid range like pods. The ONLY quirk is a strong crosswind
blowing just right on the open road. I bet this will affect the cycle
x version tooo!!!! If the RC-2240 filters are the right one's --- two
of them can be bought for $60-$70 dollars !!!!

I have a member right now interested in making a dual filter setup, be on it soon.

Even on manual machines the price should be a bit more reasonable.... The first one we do will probably have a FINNED cover..

K&N RC-2240 Dual Flange Oval Filter

Dual Flange Oval Filter•Flange inside Dia - F: 1.563'', 40mm
•Flange Center to Center: 3'', 76mm
•Outside Dim - MA: 7'', 178mm
•Outside Dim - SA: 4.5'', 114mm
•Length - L: 2'', 51mm
•Top Style: Metal
•Flange Length - FL: 0.625'', 16mm

Really don't think this one is going to work.. a really good suggestion though
But i would really like a bread box type filter(s) for my bike. I'm running 022A's so if i remember correct my carbs are 35m. anyone else got any suggestions?

I've been running the dual flange filters since early 80's. The
original part # is RC-224/2. I think I am going to just take
a shot at ordering the RC-2240's because the dimension's
are exactly the same as what is on my bike now. The only
thing I am not sure of is the offset. All the pictures show
just the top and not the flanges. I love these dual filters
as they work great and are inexpensive and don't weigh
much.

OK so with some research i realize these filters are 40mm... i think they would be perfect for my application.....except they are 5mm to big for my cabs flange.. anyone got a solution to make them work???would it work if i took some clear plumbers caulk around my flange and built up the flange a bit, then clamped it? any suggestions? 754 you seem to be a expert what do you think., beside me being a obvious newb

I tried to measure the air horn side with filters still on ---- because
they are soooo hard I may not get them back on. I see more like 38mm?
If they are a little loose how about using stock air horns and slip the
RC-2240's over or a couple O rings or flat type rubber washers or maybe
if close, carefull application of silly cone!!!!! Or save me the hassle if anyone
has tried them please post !!!! Funny how the numbers are soooo close:
RC-224/2 vs RC-2240 ---- the 2 means 2 filters in the kit that you used to
be able to buy.

What about using amalgamating tape? Might work.

i would try that but i dont have the stock peices..whenn i got my bike there was nothing so i got cheap pods( i regret it now) but it got my face in the wind.
my other idea would be trim/whittle a piece of rubber hode or pc pipe? what do you think on that? and how hard are the flangeson the filter. i got 40mm of the k&n site i i got the cb550 35mm from this site i beleive..
what is amalgamating tape?? never heard of it.

You could have aluminum bushings made to make it fit. I would stay away from caulking.

So far the amalgating tape sounds the best(googled it real fast). either that or the rimmed rubber hose. which would catch on tthe inside of the fitler flange and act just like a bushing. im looking to do it cheap and good. but that tape still sounds good bc it could be trimmed the easiest to fit and its rubber so it will compress with the clamps giving me a good seal.

You could make bushings or use thin hose to take uop the difference.

Whatever way you put them on it's going to mess up the airflow into the carbs.

That is correct.  But, since you can't "see" the air, it doesn't matter in this case.   ;D ;D

I will advise never to use a paper filter element exposed to water.    Paper is made from pulp, almost always in a water mixture.
After it is dried into paper fibers and compressed into a porous filter form, the passageway sizes are about the same size.  However, when you get finished paper wet it loses it's structural rigidity, sags, bends, or other wise deforms.  In the case of a filter, pores sizes collapse and block many of the passageways through the filter, and raises the pressure differential created across the membrane with air flow/speed.

In short, a paper filter that's gotten wet is more restrictive than a new dry one, even after it dries out again.

Pods with paper element..may be huge problems. I used to get CB 350 filters wet, and they take a llloooonnnnnggg time to dry out..

...And even when they are dried out, they are not restored.

And that they need to be cleaned following the proper procedure? Washing them in a parts cleaner IS NOT in the K&N instructions, Lloyd.

Indeed K&N are like a cotton material f sorts.
Was reading of there site and found that they have a custom filter program like if you need a certain filter with a different flange dia nor bits! so i will work with out me havinh to rig it just on to call there costumer service and talk to them about and they can quote me a price, then set me up. sometimes the best answers are right infront of me... when i open my eyes,

I use the K&N cleaner/service kit on the ones I care about.

But, you make it sound like you know the difference between stoddard solvent and the K&N cleaner, or that you believe cotton is affected by stoddard solvent.  Please elaborate.

whahahahha you cant lol! they dont make them any more! i pulled 3 of them in the junk yard. i have one on my bike, sold one, and still have 1 left that im thinking about selling. but the 3rd one i have is just the holly grail bracket. the filter was missing but you can go on the k&n website and buy the same style filters.

also you must use the K&N cleaner on the filters. u used to just clean my cars K&N short ram and cold air intakes with like gas and water..... but after giving in and buying the kit holly hell it makes such a huge difference. i thought the cleaning kit was just another ploy by a company to sell u extra stuff but man i will never clean my filters with anything else except for the cleaner they sell!!!

i mean i pulled those old K&N filters from the junkyard that have been sitting there for years getting nasty with animals living in it and stuff growing on them but after the K&N cleaner its like brand new!!!!

first solution takes off all the grit and grim and the old oil. the spray can has a special oil that has a red color that catches and holds particulates that doesnt restrict the filter its really cool
