New in PA
« on: June 15, 2012, 03:26:50 PM »
Hey guys, I'm Brian.  I'm 22 years old in Bucks County, PA.  I started riding a couple of years ago on my 2003 cbr600rr.  Over the weekend I picked up an 81 cb650 custom that I found on craigslist for $180.  My plan is to try my first tear down and rebuild, probably along the lines of a bobber.  Thanks in advance for the help.  -BJ

Hello, and welcome to the forum.
Congratulations on the getting the bike for that price. Do you have any pictures you can share?

Here's a few pictures of the bike.  As far as cosmetics none of it bothers me because stuff like the tank and the seat will be getting redone or replaced anyway.  Mechanically it looks pretty solid, although the front brakes are disconnected right now.  I'm told it runs but the battery is dead, so this weekend I'd like to give it a go through and then try to start it up before I start working on it.  An additional challenge will be re-titling, but from what I hear it's do-able in PA.  Enjoy.  -BJ

Why are my pictures so small?

You got it with no title?
If you get through the process, let me know what it takes. I have enough parts to almost put together a 3rd CB650, but my frame isn't titled. I also have to figure it out eventually for my '64 Thunderbird.
I don't use photobucket, so I am not sure if it resizes the photos when you add them. If it does, that may be why they are small.

Yea I bought it with no title.  If I come across a titled frame for cheap I may go that route.  I looked up the process for bikes a while ago and don't remember the details, but there are a few options (custom, abandoned vehicle, owed to mechanic for work performed).  I think bikes are a lot easier than cars.  I'll refresh myself on the details and let you know.  -BJ
