Three wire turn signals
« on: June 17, 2012, 03:04:56 AM »
Hey everyone,
I am trying to see if anyone has three wire signals setup.  I tried a search and came up with nothing.  Basically I want my signals on like running lights.  My signals have three wires.  But when I tried to wire them up I kept blowing my fuse.  I am guessing it has to do with the way my 350F is wired from the factory.  Any ideas?

One wire is ground, one wire goes to the original stop light circuit, and the third wire goes to the head light/tail light circuit.

Does your harness have the blue/white and orange/white wires? Do you have dual filament indicator bulbs?
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

You likely have the ground substituted for one of the bulb elements.

And because now you have an almost direct path to ground to blows out the fuse.

I did the same on my tail light and it took me a minute to sort it out in my head what was wrong since everything seemed to work ok other than a high current draw.

Honda4life not sure about the 350 but most of our bikes came with three wire on the front grd turn and running. On the rear just two wires turn and grd. Running in the rear is illegal in most if not all states. Spiider is probably correct.

Everyone thanks for the info.  I am talking about using my turn signals as running lights.  My 350 has two wires, ground and primary.  I also had the same issue with my new brake light being troo bright, swapped the wires and then it was corrected.  I had to replace the flasher unit to a cheap o'rielly replacement.

Does your harness have the blue/white and orange/white wires? Do you have dual filament indicator bulbs? Yes to both questions

Ok. Orange/white and the orange wires go to the left indicator, blue/white and blue wires go to the right. Both lights need earthed. If they don't have green wires coming from them then the lights need to be grounded where they mount.

I tried that.  I gorunded directly to the frame where they entered the frame.  There was plenty of bare metal to ensure a good contact was made.
So you and I are thinking the same.  I could try and ground it at the battery grounding point where the upper engine bolt goes.

Run a wire straight to the battery negative to see if grounding is the problem.

Nothing when I tried that.  I tried to run it from the brake light low power wire.  But it over loaded.  I am going to try the headlight wire later tonight.  Thanks again.

If you have the orange/white, orange, blue/white, blue wires connected it's only the ground that is required. The brake light power or headlight is going to blow a fuse every time.
