Primary sprocket needle bearing removal
« on: June 17, 2012, 05:23:27 PM »
On how I removed those needle bearings in the primary sprocket...
I tried using a pilot bearing removal tool and ended up trashing the cage and loosing all the needles. So I stuck the largest socket that I could inside from the mangled side, and used an extension from the opposite side to lightly tap the out bearing race lip. Instead of using a hammer, i held the sprocket assembly in my hand and used its weight to tap the extension on a vice top. Once the first one was out, I was able to use a larger socket to do the same trick with the second bearing. Hope this helps!

THANKS for this post! You just saved me from having to buy a new primary sprocket. I managed to mangle one of the bearings using a drift. I had a socket that fit right in there and tapped it out just like you said in about 3 wacks on the ground.
