Smaller front fender for a cb500/4
« on: June 10, 2006, 08:17:43 AM »
Does any one know of a fender that is short, small, and will bolt onto my 72 cb500 forks?

Will this 1981 cb650 fender fit?

Or this 1984 cb550 fender?

I'd like some thing even shorter.

The easiest way would be to cut the stock fender.

Whatever you do keep the original mount/brace without modding as it stiffens the forks against twist
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

I wasn't too keen about the twin-brace front fender on my 72 CB500 either...I like a bobbed fender, like in my avatar...

Looking around here, I noticed that a 78 CB750 used a single-brace front fender, and was slightly shorter (about three inches) than my CB500 fender...so I found a good one on eBay, and mounted it...looks fine...

Right now I'm trying to decide if I want to drill it for the second brace...it will be a tight fit, as the caliper is right there...but it will clear...

I'm just not sure how happy I'll be with the second brace...(I kind of like the look of a braced fender)...

Edit: Here's a with and without pic of the CB750 fender on the CB500...any preferences/opinions???

Personally, I like the look of the front brace. Just my 2 cents worth though, you'll find a fair number of those who don't like it and some who don't even like a front fender at all. So, just to be clear, I like the fender with 2 braces (not counting the middle one). Of course it's your bike and your choice. Good luck.   Later on, Bill

It's funny that you say that... I really like the look of the fender in YOUR avatar.

The bike/sidecar in my avatar isn't mine. The sidecar is much like mine and I've got an 80'
CB750K and while it doesn't have any braces except the middle one, it is about as long as the
older 750 fender with the braces. The fender(of that style), that has the braces, is present on
the 2 CB450K7s and the 73 CB500K that I have. I was only using that picture because it closely
resembles what my bike/sidecar rig will look like when I get it setup. And by the way, that fender
on the bike, in my avatar, is stock to that bike.       Later on, Bill
