Quick Exhaust Gasket Question
« on: June 05, 2012, 10:43:52 AM »
Im restoring a 72 350f, and it didnt have any ex. gaskets.  I orded some today.  Do these go on the back of the collar ?  or on the inside?.., the scehmatic isnt real clear...  I'm guessing kind of around the hole for the cylinder and then the collar slips inside ?    thanks in advance.

I don't have the 350f. But the idea of the gasket is to keep header and cylinder sealed and the collar go over the header, then mount with flange. Hope this helps.

Not familiar with the CB350, but check this thread for possible pointers:

Be sure to get the old gaskets out of the head. They will likely be REALLY hard to see/you won't believe that they're gaskets, you'll think you're prying against the head itself. But get a really strong light and look at all four old gaskets and at least one of the four will end up being visible as "not a part of the head". Once they get compressed against the head and all sooty from the exhaust the old gaskets are really hard to see. But make darn sure you get the old ones out before trying to install new ones! Don't just give it a quick look and say "nah, that's just the head...no gaskets there". Look closer.

+1

You wouldn't be the first to put new exhaust gaskets on top of the old, flattened ones.
