Restoration project 1977 CB 750 K 7
« on: June 19, 2012, 05:02:54 PM »
Hi all :)
Just joined the forum, and want to ask something of all the good people here :) I became a SOHC4 owner last year, and this summer I am starting a complete restoration of my 1977 CB 750 K7. My plan is to blog frequently and substantially about it, and document in writing, images and movies as much as I can of the process as the project progresses. In that I'm doing this, it would be very cool if some of the great knowledge found here on this forum also found its way into my restoration blog  :) My idea is this: If you've ever experienced problems that weren't mentioned in the service manual, and you found the solution yourself, great, put it in the blog under a relevant picture. Ask me to take a picture or shoot some video to illustrate your input! Post your best hints, tips and tricks for maintaining the shine of the spokes in your wheels! What tools do you use for keeping the fins on your cylinder block clean and silvery? Lets have a discussion on diesel oil vs stock oil, which is better for a Honda CB bike? Drive chain oilers, some close them off, some don't, pros and cons? How do you convert a single brake disk bike into a dual brake disk bike? Best polishing substance for chrome? For painted surfaces? What's your experience with engine paint? Engine cleaners added in the fuel tank? The 5 or 10 most important things to check for when you have your crank case split open in front of you? Do you have a local dealer with rare parts in stock? Original Honda color codes? And so on....

Hopefully, when the restoration is done, will not only a classic bike have had a good quality restoration job, but considerable knowledge will have been gathered in somewhat systemized form, since it more or less has followed the progress of the restoration.
This information, I hope, will be a contribution to the service manual, a Honda Shop Manual addendum of Hints, Tips and Tricks if you will, and possibly be enough and of such a quality that one could put it in a .pdf for sharing.

Would you be interested in working with me on this? I have started the blog over at Facebook, just look up 'Honda CB restoration', and check it out:

I know it's not much at the moment, but with your help it can become a great and organized resource :)
Hope to see you there :)
