I am having problems with my clutch. It will go in to first no problem but when going in to second gear it will not go, I did get it to go in 1 time while going around the block but when sitting on the porch working on it I can not get it to cycle through the gears.

I have changed the oil and still wont cycle through while sitting cold. Should I get it back on the road with new oil to see if anything changes or begin removing the clutch assembly? Are there other options that might be causing this to happen?

The bike has been sitting for the past 6 years, I have taken it around the block on Sat when I discovered the clutch problem. 6 Years ago I did not have the problem.

Did you try turning the rear wheel while trying to cycle through the gears with it sitting?

Not a clutch problem, NB..... more likely a prob. with the shift drum and the 2 arms that operate it. There are several springs on the mech. that can 'jump' off their stops or break ( ug! ).... but it sounds like the drum is not rotating enough to go from 1st to 2nd, which is the most travel between gear shifts as it has to pass thru' N to get 2nd engaged. Need to remove the gear shift cover to see the drum operation.... oil and gasket involved  .... do a search on 'shifting problem', see what comes up...... Good luck Mr. A.

i recommend doing the clutch cable adjustment as per manual (including the adjustment at the basket). you never know, it could be a simple cure, and simple cures are easy.

also, six years is a long time for a cable to sit there and not move, so lube the cable generously.
