Topic: CB650 noise in high rpm

Hey everyone,

My bike seems to be running fine, idles great and feels like its got lots of power when driving.

With that said, there seems to be a bit of a rattle or buzz when I'm revving the engine. It's absolutely driving me nuts. I thought maybe it was just the headers but I've tightened them down a couple times already.

The noise seems to come and go and I don't think it's damaging but I'd just love to track it down.

Any suggestions? It could be anything really and it's hard to locate when I'm driving, I just hear it every once and a while.

Seek and "hope".   I just noticed (and Lyn) that the right mirror rattles on one of my bikes.

I've been trying as I go to grab things with my hand while I hear it. I'm hoping to find the culprit but I'm running out of things in arms reach.

I just want to be able to reassure myself its not the cam chain again, which I feel I should be comfortable with since it sounds great when its idle.

If it's a "buzz", more than likely something is loose.

Check all hardware and make sure all bolt and screw heads are flush with the surface they are securing. I've seen where a longer than stock screw was used and it bottomed out in the hole and left a small gap at the contact point.

i had the same situation and on a long trip and it worried the hell out of me until i realized it was the high low switch on the left hand control. sometimes when you work on your own bike you get a little paranoid...i know i do. but then you see guys riding around on totally unmaintained beaters and they don't have a care in the world.
