Hi all! New member here, located in southern california. Here is the 1976 cb 550k as I purchased it a little over a month ago:
So a little history - I used to own a sportbike about 10 years ago, then sold it to court my better half. Recently I bought a kawasaki zr7 from a friend of a friend to get back into riding, but quickly realized that it didn't tug at my heart strings the way the vintage bikes did. So, a few weeks later I found a guy selling a 550. I checked it out, rode it around the block, paid the man a premium socal price, then rode it home 30 miles. When I got home, my right shoe and lower pant leg were soaked in oil. I knew it had a small leak but it was definitely understated. I wondered if my impulsive buying habits got me into trouble again.
Fast forward a few weeks and I have no regrets and dry pant legs. Thanks to this site, I've refreshed the gaskets and o-rings in the top end as well as cleaned and refreshed the carburetor. The bike just puts a smile on my face when I ride it and I can't wait to do more work on it.
