I found that having the oil pan and sump off the engine when reinstalling gives that extra clearance it needs. We slipped it back in in minutes!

Good trick for clearance to the frame yes but can you imagine the damage that will happen to the pan gasket surfaces or oil sump mounting area if you slip and drop the motor....

Good if it worked for you but I dont have the balls. Congratz on your install btw....Boats

---Edit: Think Ill try this next time if I can have a plate of metal machined a few 1/8" thick and bolted in place where the oil pan and pump would normally go. JIC.

Definitely going to remember that one when I go to put it back in, but will do it laying on it's side until I can bolt her in then turn right side up and put on the pan.

yup and I ground down the "lip" of the lower front mounting bracket on the frame, helps as well.

I made a small table from MDF, 11.25 inches high.  I placed the engine on the table, minus the sump, and slid it across.
Next I just fitted the lower engine bolts and jacked the engine forward with a car jack to make fitting the carbs easier.
