My travel piece in Motorcycle Classics July/August issue
« on: June 21, 2012, 02:24:04 PM »
For those bored and unwilling to make trees die for your travel journalism reading, here's the link to a story I wrote for Motorcycle Classics about the honeymoon trip me and my wife took last summer.  Please disregard the humorless, too-cool couple featured in the first pic.

http://m.motorcycleclassicsmagazine.com/classic-motorcycle-touring/cross-country-honeymoon-1973-honda-zm0z12jazbea.aspx

In the spirit of shameless self promotion, the newsstand edition has some fine photography not featured on the web version.  But that's not all.  In addition to the photos the newsstand version works as a table leg shim, an oil drip catcher and highly ineffective toilet paper.  There's no end to its usefulness.  Buy as many copies of this issue as your budget/ arms will allow.  Motorcycle Classics is a pretty great magazine, and I wholeheartedly support their continued existence, and so should you.  If that's your thing, I mean.

Thanks, hope you dig it.

Clearly a great trip. A great read as well. Congrats to you both, a particularly your wife. My first bike was a '68 CB350 and there was no way I would have entertained.. or survived at trip like that.  ;) Good job!

The story - I dug it, I'm going out to buy that edition  ;D

I love a good story, & that was a great read and well written.  Multiple congratulations to you, your wife & the Honda's.  You've now got a great memory to enjoy for the rest of your life, dream it & do it, very inspiring.  I agree about the "just gas" CB350, they were awesomely dependable bikes, my brother in law rode his from Montreal to Florida & back in the 70's & that was 2 up with the girlfriend!  Like Bob, I would have never dreamed of trying that... Enjoyed the read. What was the "Mother of all arguments" about anyway?

Wow, I don't remember.  I remember lots of arguments about directions, and trying to make as many miles a day as possible.  But I don't remember that one.  Guess it must not have been about much.  Like most arguments, right?

Thanks, guys.  Better living through long and unwise roadtrips, I say.  I like MC Classics, too.  Just wish they were monthly.  I think they're the equal to Classic Bike outta U.K.

Doing a weekend trip up north, and its the same thing  -Nic's bike just needs gas-  meanwhile I'm retuning carbs and hunting down header leaks.  In my defense my bike's a daily rider, so the maintenance piles up.

Good one Skonnie, I can't even get my old lady to get on the passenger's seat, you are lucky.

Very cool Anders. i was just looking for the latest edition yesterday at a downtown book store, but they were out. Must have been your article. I will swing by Evanston Main News tonight and grab one.

Congratulations on getting the story in.

Dennis, I saw your smiling face and red jacket in the ads. I keep intending to get up there for the show, but something always gets in the way. This year I could only do Road America OR Gilmore in Michigan, but not both.

I opted for the Gilmore show this year, but I think if I have to make the same call next year it's going to be the Road America show.

Cool story, I made a similar trip 40 years ago in a VW bug. Getting up at dawn to avoid the excessive heat, the endless stretches of exotic scenery and hour after hour of silent road noise were recollections conjured up  from reading your story...Larry

HAA.  Unwise roadtrips and stories that start with "I never thought..." can have the same outcomes.  They last forever and go nowhere good.  Like sawing a log with a butterknife.

As for my big ass salary, it might help cover the cost of a new right side cover.  Lost it on the way to WI.  Part of my I-90 beautification project, unfortunately.  Pour one out, boys...

It should go without saying that we wouldn't have gone anywhere, moto-wise without sohc4.net.

That's a bit grandiose, actually.  Maybe Nic would have let me ride #$%* the whole way.

I hope you at least got a couple of tee-shirts and hat out of them for your trouble.  :)
Hopefully another CB owner will find that cover!  Although it's more likely some guy in an orange jumpsuit will just bag it!
