I sadly had to part out the engine a couple years ago on a 72 750 that had over75,000 on the engine. Still have the bike,it has all the original paint and covers and even had 4 still good original exhaust pipes. Was a daily rider for a guy who got into a situation where he dumped it.LUCKILY for the bike he had a Bates fairing and some other goodies that saved the good stuff but during his accident he shattered both the lower and upper case around the points cover and enouph of his body to quit. Pretty much game over on that engine. When I tore it down everything looked great,was really surprised. Still have all the bits stored away well,tossed a hypo engine I bought on a fluke in it to test,which worked and has been sitting ever since. Another project.Here is a bad pic of it stored deep in archives but can get fresh of that old speedo. They can go for a long time. PS-See it in there,next to the RD

Lots of new guys so a new thread is good for awhile.Lets see who can show a CB speedo with the most miles as long as you have a piece of paper with the date written on it next to your handle to it to prove its real.Maybe a SOHC patch prize or something ??,Does the site still sell these? I'll Buy,if I don't win

The only reason I ask is because my bike has many places with the original yellow inspection paint.
This leads me to suspect that someone rode the bike for along time then died, and his wife sold it to some putz that just wanted to turn a quick buck.
I aquired this bike from a respected collector who bought the bike from said putz.

That yellow inspection paint is always great to see on an original machine. It is a good sign that it has been unmolested.On the other hand it is not hard to match that color and toss it around on an 'original' bike that may go through Ebay for instance.In person you get a good idea of a bikes patina and its a tool to use when buying,hopefully from and original owner or his family

Ekpent, I'm not that easilly fooled.
And I doubt that anytime soon someone would go to the extreame Or trouble of researching where to put fake factory marks on these bikes at this time.
These bikes are a dime a dozen...they are not rare and thats why alot of guys turn them into something better than they were in the first place.

Well I quess that maybe you don't need to know that I have had Guys down at my shop checking out some original machines so they can tell exactly where the proof marks may go etc. before they take there bikes to a show and have them perfect.When some people do an exact repro of a vintage machine they get into some very fine details,check out the Sandcast sight if you really want to see how far they go. I am not into all that but happy to help if I have something around..

If I want to get into the preservation of rare bikes,Hondas,sandcast or not is not top priority.
