I had looked at this bike when it was sitting in Max Motorsports showroom a few months back and just missed out on it. Found it online tonight. went and took it for a bit of a ride to get a feel for it and enjoyed it. Its a lot lighter then my VF750 and is so easy to flick around when i want to change direction..It was advertised as a 1976 Yamaha Dual purpose. I believe it is a DT250 model.

Yup it seems to. I have been out on it every day so far. Waiting on some parts to arrive later this week.

They're a great bike mate, I've had the model before with the "roundy" tank, and the model after with the monoshock rear suspension, and around town and for "light" cross country work, they are superb. I commuted daily on my 1979 model DT250 for a year when I was living in Sydney, and it was fantastic, when the traffic got too congested, I went "cross country", great fun! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

After riding mine for the past few days i can see why you enjoyed yours! I have had it out on a couple trails and have enjoyed that. However I suspect it still has its original tires since it has less then 5600 miles on it. I will be ordering new tires next month for it. Im looking hard at the Kenda K270s. It is currently fitted with Dunlop Universal Trials tires.

Yeah mate, both of mine only had the OEM "Trial Universal" tires fitted, so not real good in mud, but good enough for what I was doing. (mostly commuting) Cheers, Terry. ;D

Well...figured i would revive this thread now that im back to stay. Had a lot happen during the summer so pretty much all the plans i had for the bike went out the window. However along the way i did learn that the DTs shared some parts with the XS650s. Mostly the front fork seals and the front ends are interchangeable if i ever wanted to convert the bike into a supermoto. I plan on getting back at it as soon as the snow is gone...or at least enough of it that i can actually give some thought to digging it out of where its parked.

I know for sure the 78 DT Models had a mono shock. It should designate on the title what it is. Any way, great ride. I loved my DT 400. John

I like the DT. I have had a 72 RT360 a 76 RT360 a SC500 and a IT 400, but that was a few years ago. All of that series of bikes were good.
