What honda is this? (It's a cb450 thanks guys!)
« on: December 18, 2013, 11:01:51 PM »
Hey guys. Not sure what bike this is. That is my grandfather on my dad's bike. I am wanting to try and find/restore this model bike for him for his 50th birthday next year in August, or Christmas if I can't make the deadline. I want it to be a surprise for him. He was very fond I my K1 when I was restoring it claiming it was very similar in color. The picture looks darker but it's definitely a blue green of sorts and could very well be honda blue-green. I see smaller reflectors so it looks like an earlier year bike. I know it's a twin but that's it. Mods can move this if need be. I just want help identifying so I can start working on his gift! This is the only picture I have to go on. Thanks

That's a CB450 K3 or later......

K3 was the first with the disc.....Which yours has.

K3 was the first with the flip lid, big tail light.....all of which yours has...

Its pre K5 as they had the chrome headlight ears....

So 1970-1971 )K3-K4.

Best I can do w the picture....

Angle of the front fork looks a bit strange to me.

Looks like a 1970 K3 from the seat pleating design and was available in candy blue-green.

I wish they were, but the example pix are not my bikes:

Thanks guys. You rock! I'm just not familiar enough with these bikes to know the model cosmetically. Will be researching and planning for the coming months!

I think that is a 1971 CB450 in Polynesian blue.

Here is a real good reference for old Hondas:

thanks Kc, thats good reading! he claims it was blue-green like my K1 though. i didn't even know they used that color on another model bike, but my dad has a great memory, I am inclined to believe its a 1970 K3. the seat looks the same as the 1970 in the link you provided. I think for his sake I am going to be painting it the same color as mine as it sparked his memory. now to plan out details, find a bike, and restore it! gonna get the whole family in on this. only 8 months to go. much work to do! does anyone have any good threads on cb450s to direct me to? I'll be researching anyway but it doesnt hurt to ask. problem areas, etc?

thats what I am afraid of! but its a 50th birthday gift, its his old bike, and we can ride together! the plan is to get it up to NY state, at his mothers house where the picture was taken. she still lives there, I want to have a whole family gathering/party and reveal. I am a big surprise planner :D

they don't have as big a following as the 750's so they're pretty cheap and parts are pretty cheap as well (with exception to some parts related to the cams) just search craigslist and im sure there will be at least a few ads up for under a thousand running. got mine for 800 running.
