cb750A frame question.
« on: June 21, 2012, 10:51:41 AM »
Hello I'm new to the forum and really humble to be on here. But I have a 1978 cb750A frame that I got for $40 to start my first project. I really want to stick to this frame, but I also ended up with a front end and swingarm from a 1978 cb750k. Now I'm not trying to mix and match multiple parts, just trying to work with what I have. I also don't want a hondamatic...so from the frame  moving forward... I was wondering if any of CB750K motors (between 1976 and 1978) would fit into my frame?

Thanks for your time.

YES, the motor will bolt right in. I am building one like that right now. The motor mount points line up perfectly with one caveat. You have to use the K model upper right rear removeable bracket which are a dime a dozen. The only real issue you have to deal with is the A frame does not have oil tank mounts but that's fixable with a little grafting. Other A parts like the swing arm, brake pedal, exhaust system, pegs, fuel tank, seat, etc. should be used to prevent a major fuss. Might be a bit of a challenge for the light hearted but very doable.

The really cool aspect to this morph is the engine top end becomes removeable without the removing the whole engine or installing the Gordon "framekit". One might argue that installing the framekit is a much simpler solution to achieve this bennie but the A frame backbone with the dual triangular bracing is pretty dang stiff and better fits my purpose.

I remember a 72 that I had that needed engine work.  I attempted to remove the valve cover but it would not come off with the engine in the frame.  You are saying that I could remove this one with the engine in the frame?  Do you know what the difference is with the frame?

The lower suporting tubes that are just above the cylinder head cover arch up above  the cover and give just enough clerance to get it apart. The main upper tube is still straight.
